- The Armored Roadblock (June 1941). This is a scenario for "Steel
- Panthers" derived from page 76 of "Small Unit Actions During the German
- Campaign in Russia", 1953, published by the U.S. Army Center of Military
- History. The German 6th Armored Division reached the town of Rossienie in
- Southern Lithuania and established two bridgeheads across the Dubysa River.
- A single KV tank moved astride the road from Rossienie to the bridgeheads.
- The Germans committed a succession of forces for 48 hours before they were
- able to neutralize the single tank. The tank never moved during the entire
- period (other than rotating its turret).
-
- Initially, the Germans thought this was a prelude to an attack on their
- bridgeheads from the rear. Forces were relocated to check this eventuality, but
- nothing happened for an entire day. The next day 12 supply trucks were
- destroyed moving from Rossienie to the bridgeheads. The Germans moved a battery
- of 50mm AT guns to 1,000 yards of the KV, later 600 yards. They obtained 8
- direct hits. After 2 guns were destroyed, the rest were withdrawn. Next, an
- 88mm AT gun was moved to 900 yards, but was destroyed. Then, with supplies
- running low at the bridgehead, an engineer section moved up under cover of
- darkness and set charges on the tracks. The next day, the tank was still
- functioning. A fake attack of tanks from the bridgehead was launched to cover
- moving up an 88mm AT gun from Rossienie. This gun obtained 7 direct rear hits.
- When the tank gun elevated, the Germans moved up to the tank. Only 2 88mm
- shells had penetrated the tank. Then the KV gun began to move. Some Germans
- scattered. Grenades were finally used to silence the vehicle.
-
- This scenario is compressed and needs to be unzipped. Its component
- files need to be renamed to "scen0xx" where xx is the slot you wish to place
- the scenario (eg, scen044.dat, scen044.txt, scen044.cmt). NOTE: Slot numbers
- 00-041 are used by SP. These files are placed in the subdirectory "scen", ie,
- "\steel\scen\" To simulate the scenario, I reduced the KV tank speed to 0. To
- play historically, forces should be committed piecemeal. The more turns the
- KV survives, the greater the Russian victory. This scenario is submitted for
- SP players' enjoyment. Feel free to edit it and/or post it elsewhere. As I
- am new to this, any critical comments or suggestions are welcome. I am posting
- it on Compuserve (GAMERS, LIB 16) and GEnie (Scorpio - Steel Panthers).
